I am an Entertainment Weekly suscriber, and I finally renewed my subscription after several, very angry and red colored envelopes had been sent to my house. God, everyone’s so pushy. This week’s Book section showed the dedication page of Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook. Who cares right? No, just wait until you see this. It goes a little something like this…
This book is dedicated to my brother, Jake, my first guinea pig, who makes meals great just by being there, and for looking so much like Bruce while he is eating them. Also to our closest friends, our family really, who are always the reason to have a dinner party, the Wigmore-Reynolds, the Van Nices, the Carters, the Turly-Burnses and their extended clan, the Maudes, the Harveys, the Downeys, the McCartney-Willises, the Spielbergs, the Nadal-Saxe-Coburgs, the Conrad-Manions, the Hill-McGraws… for Apple and Moses, hearts of my artichoke, my raisins d’être.
Instead of saying, flat out, “to Jay-Z And Beyonce, The Weinsteins, Robert Downey and Wife, Stella McCartney and her dad, essentially, Steven and Kate Spielberg, a couple of princes, Faith Hill and Tim McGraws” she just puts there last names there, so you can be like oh that was sweet… wait did she just name drop half of the most famous couples in the world? This is amazing. I am usually nit picky about a books dedication – sometimes they are too short, too much, too sweet, too obvious, too vague or just right – but this is past all of that. If I ever write a book I am writing a dedication just like this. It’s made my day/week/month. This is why Gwyneth Paltrow will never tire for me. This and the fact that she sang Adele on Glee, because that’s the world we live in.
