The third trailer for The Great Gatsby (3D) was released yesterday. I haven’t watched it and won’t unless it’s in front of Evil Dead or Jurassic Park at the theaters this weekend, mainly because I’ve decided to put blinders on and see as little footage as possible about a movie before seeing it, but also because the 2nd trailer for this movie has been in front of almost every movie I’ve seen this year. You? I’m so, so, so sick of it. There’s always one movie where the trailer is just attached to everything.
Now, I’ve kind of put this movie in the corner for the last few months. Ever since it was moved from it’s original 2012 holiday release date to May 2013 (the 2nd weekend of May, to be exact, which, historically, isn’t a great date), I automatically assumed it was because it was a pile of shit. Now, looking back, it may still turn out to be more of a visual spectacle than a great adaptation, but I think the move had more to do with it not competing with Django. It’s just assumed that a movie like this, the source material it’s based on, and the caliber of it’s cast, it would lend itself to being a big holiday blockbuster with some awards potential. I still think it’s the Instragam version for the self-diagnosed ADD youth, but there seems to be some potential, in particular, the soundtrack.
I didn’t watch the trailer with my eyes, but just listened to it to hear Beyonce & Andre 3000′s cover of Amy Winehouse’s classic “Black To Black”. From the very few seconds of it you can hear, I really like it. A lot. And I love the tracklisting, check it out:

To quote Madea, HELLLLERRR! I mean, even if this entire soundtrack sucks (which I can’t see happening) it’s going to be amazing. When was the last time a soundtrack won Album of the Year at the Grammys? O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? Let’s say, and I know I’m getting ahead of myself, this soundtrack is as amazing as it seems, and if it’s even eligible, it’ll win. And steal it from Justin Timberlake. IMAGINE?!
Anyways, the moral of this story is that I’m currently taking bets on the 2014 Grammy Awards and I need to watch O’ Brother. As you were.
